I don’t know about you, but I felt all kinds of emotions while watching this video.

ASUS RT-AC1200 Router and Chromecast
I wanted to post this little PSA in hopes it helps save someone a bit of frustration.
We recently switched our ISP (Internet Service Provider) and needed to buy a new router. We went with the ASUS RT-AC1200 router, which isn’t gigabit, but since our service’s bandwidth caps at 100 Mbps, we didn’t need the extra throughput.
For the most part, the router works great, but we did have some trouble with getting our Google Chromecast to work with the router. It had trouble keeping connected to the ASUS router. Even the setup via laptop or smartphone was difficult and wouldn’t finish successfully. Sometime we’d be able to see the Chromecast from other devices, and the Chromecast even indicated that it was connected to our network, but it we couldn’t cast with any reliability. I tried many things, and finally figured out the correct setting for the router.
TL;DR
Make sure the 2.4GHz access point is set to “Legacy”. Also, you may try disabling IPv6. If that doesn’t work, the last thing to try is to disable the router’s firewall feature.
After setting this, and rebooting the router, the Chromecast stays connected to the network and we can cast from all devices without problems!
Sanding Cork?

“Wrong Fit” Cedar Park, 2017
こんばんは。How’s it going?
We bought a cool wine bottle stopper when we were in Barcelona. But as you can see from the photo, it doesn’t fit our a standard wine bottle. ☹️ Which is surprising. Or maybe this bottle stopper is made for a different type of bottle? Who knows.
I want to somehow reduce the diameter of the cork, but I am not sure if there is a special way to do it since it is a very soft wood. Should I use sandpaper? A sharp knife to widdle it down? Hmmm… I guess a bit of Googling is in order.
I hope you had a good day.

Free Hiragana and Katakana Charts

“Free Hiragana and Katakana Charts” Cedar Park, 2017
Hi all! I was searching for some small, printable hiragana and katakana charts to put in my passport-size Midori Traveler’s Notebook, but then thought that I should just make my own. So I did that. And then I thought, “Why don’t I make these available for others to use?” Well, here they are – free hiragana and katakana charts!
Each PDF chart is roughly 100mm x 70mm, which will leave enough room to tape it onto a page or slide it into a kraft sleeve.
Right-click the links below to save the PDF, then when you print, select “Actual Size” to print at 100mm x 70mm, or you can choose “Fit” if you want it to fill your paper size.
I hope someone finds these simple reference charts useful! 😀 If so, consider buying me a coffee.
Black Algae?

“Black Algae” Cedar Park, 2017
I’m not sure what this is, but my best guess is that it is a kind of black algae. For the past half-year or so, this has started appearing on the aquarium plants’ leaves, the rocks, and other surfaces. Our Siamese algae eaters and Malaysian trumpet snails have not been able to get rid of it, but I think I have a solution.
I’ve been adding the recommended dosage of API Leaf Zone to the water for a month now, and the black algae has been going away. The plants are growing more and shedding any leaves that have the black algae on them. And as a bonus, the Malaysian trumpet snail population is booming! 😀
So, if your aquarium is suffering from black algae, give API Leaf Zone a try. It might just do the trick!
