Some of you may know that my wife, Mariko, is a baker. For the past few years she has sold Stollen to a small number of people, but this year the production has ramped up and she’s selling much, much more. So we’ve had baking sheets, cooling racks, mixing bowls, and of course Stollen all around the kitchen. It’s pretty neat to see the whole process, but wow… it’s a lot of work!

The Stollen itself is amazingly delicious. Once you start eating, it’s hard to stop. My daily photo doesn’t do it justice, so I stole a few of Mariko’s photos:

I’m seeing many more photos on Instagram and Twitter of people’s homemade bread since the stay-at-home lifestyle has begun, and it’s awesome! Of course, I have to post some of Mariko’s bread too since it’s the best. This one is a sourdough loaf (my favorite), but she also made malasadas today for the first time. They were delicious!

It’s a good thing that I love to eat sandwiches because we have so much delicious bread… I just can’t get enough of it. Yay for bakers! 🍞 🥐

Mariko bakes some beautiful bread, but every once in a while something goes wrong. Today, for instance, a large loaf of sandwich bread didn’t bake correctly on the bottom, so it was saggy. The top half was perfect but the bottom half was dough-ey and not done. Oh well, you can’t win ’em all! 😆
