Here in central Texas, many of the trees’ leaves are turning a nice golden color. I don’t think I’ve really noticed it before this year… I wonder why… but anyways, I think they look amazing. The view from our backyard is so nice this week!
Today the weather was sunny and 81° F! So on my lunchbreak, Piplup and I went for a ride to the nearby hike and bike trail to see some of the Autumn colors. Please check out the video below if you’d like to come along for the ride!
After several grey and rainy days, the sun came out and it was so welcomed (by me, at least) that I went for a run and a bicycle ride! My afternoon cruise around the neighborhood was a lot of fun.
The Brompton is a great bike to ride slow and take in all the views. It’s the opposite of Sophie, my Peugeot road bike, which is not easy to stop, go, and get off frequently. She’s made for going fast from point A to B.
My Brompton, Piplup, on the other hand is super-easy to get off of and stand, to take photos or just enjoy the scenery. It’s quite versatile!
Anyways, on today’s neighborhood ride I saw a large bird (Great Blue Heron?) at the pond, and saw lots of trees’ leaves turning colors. It was nice to get some fresh air, clear my mind, and also get some sun. 🌤️
I went with Piplup for a ride this afternoon before it got too dark (the sun sets so early these days!). We rode on a bunch of light gravel and Piplup’s tiny 16″ wheels and tires did fine.
In other good news, the Brooks B17 saddle is starting to get more comfortable. It can take a while for the leather to shape itself to your sit-bones, and it seems like it’s finally starting to happen. 😀
I mentioned in a previous post that I picked up a PIVRING backpack from IKEA. It was only $4! The reason I bought it is because it’s the perfect size for putting on the M style handlebars on my Brompton folding bike. I am using it to pick up the mail from our mailbox. The mailbox is a few hundred meters from our house so it’s a quick, but fun little ride.
One thing I noticed about the Brompton is that it is much easier to handle while off the bike as compared to regular bicycles. Maneuvering it out the front door is easy because the small front wheel tends not to sway side-to-side like larger wheels. And the step-through frame makes it easy to stand over it while I put the mail into the bag. It’s really convenient!
Today I went to IKEA to buy a couple of Dimpa bags. These particular bags are the perfect size for putting a Brompton folding bike into. They cost only $7 so are a popular choice for Brompton owners to use when traveling. There are plenty of videos about using them, so if you are interested, check them out! I also picked up a Pivring backpack (only $4!) to loop around the handlebars. It’s a cheap alternative to a bag that fits on the Brompton front carrier block, which are generally pricey.
After that, I went for a ride around the neighborhood. I still need to find the optimal seating position, but I am getting closer! The Brompton is such a fun bicycle to ride. Oh, I also need to decide on a good name for it to go along with Sophie, Rossa, and the recently stolen (😢) Mango. I am leaning towards “Piplup” which is the name of a cute blue pokémon.

My camera & photos
I use a Fujifilm X-series camera for most of the photos on this site and my Instagram. Why not pick one up for yourself?
