こんばんは! Good evening!

Did you have a nice Easter? Our was nice and relaxing… now that the kids are getting bigger, they aren’t interested in egg hunting but they did enjoy receiving an Easter gift bag this morning. It was filled with candy and customized rubber stamps with their names on them. I remember when they were little, they would enjoy looking for the Easter baskets as soon as they woke up! This morning, Koa wasn’t even at home! He spent the night at a friends house and I picked him up at 10am. Apparently they stayed up until 3am, which is to be expected, but what was a surprise to me was that Koa was able to stay awake all day today.

Before I picked him up, though, I woke up at my usual time (before 6am), and was on my laptop deleting old bookmarks when I came across an old link to a pizza recipe. This one calls for tortillas in a cast-iron skilled for quick and easy quasi-pizza. So I made a couple little pizzas for myself, actually putting an egg on one of them to make a breakfast-style pizza. It was yummy! These were pretty small pizzas, using the smallest sized flour tortillas you can find in the supermarket. Later, when Mariko and the kids were hungry, I made them some more pizzas and they gobbled them up. The pizzas were a huge hit! I must have made about 6 pizzas for them. 🍕

This afternoon cleaned our aquarium, did some laundry, and then had a beer and watched a few episodes of an anime that I was interested in called “The Pilot’s Love Song”. I enjoyed the first 4 episodes a lot and am looking forward to watching the rest of them. I am not a huge anime fan, but maybe that will change… there are some really cool shows out there!

For dinner, we didn’t have a traditional Easter meal (we’re not big on ham), but rather a dim-sum inspired feast as you can see in the photo. It was delicious! No chance for leftovers either, it was so tasty. Then after dinner, we watched Zoolander for the first time. It was so bad but good and fun. We enjoyed it a lot!

I hope you had a nice weekend. Let’s have a great week!

こんばんは!

Tonight Mariko made a small pizza as part of our dinner (along with pasta and salad). She is perfecting her pizza dough, and this evening’s pizza was baked in a cast-iron pan in the oven. It turned out great! Our only complaint was that there wasn’t enough of it. 🍴

I can’t wait to try more of the pizza she will make… she’s still experimenting, which is good news for us because all the pizzas she has made have been delicious.

In other news, today my new Chromebook arrived and I have been getting acquainted with it. In fact, I am typing this post using it. The keyboard on this Acer Chromebook 11 is wonderful. Super comfy and the keys are spaced just right. The trackpad is fantastic as well, and I love the multi-touch gestures, especially the three-finger swipe to switch between browser tabs. It’s a really cool effect! Early this evening, I tried out the webcam on a Google Hangouts call with my brother and it worked well. I think this laptop is going to work out just fine!

Right now it’s pretty vanilla-looking, but I have ordered some stickers to put on it, so I’ll take some photos of it for a later post. Speaking of looks, the Acer is not the sleekest machine out there. In fact I am a little disappointed… I thought it would have nicer curves. It’s kind of ugly… it reminds me of the original Kindle. The plastic is really cheap too! But you know, for $165, it’s a pretty great machine. Fast, quiet (no fan, so it’s silent), and the battery lasts about 10 hours.

But I’ll post a more comprehensive review about it later, because it’s now getting very late here! Take care!

こんばんは!

Hi everyone. It’s late… 11:45 PM here, and I will write this quickly because I am so sleepy. Tonight we had some good friends over for “Kaiju Nite 6”. We like to watch Kaiju (giant monster) movies every half-year or so, and this was our sixth get-together. Previous themes have been Godzilla, Gamera, Mothra, etc, but tonight’s theme was Tokusatsu TV, with television episodes ranging from 1966-1973. We watched Ultraman, Iron King, Kikaida, Kamen Rider, and others, plus Mikey brought over toys and lyrics sheets so we could sing along to all the tv show themes. It was a lot of fun! And as always, the food and drink selections were delicious.

But, I am fading fast so I will end this here…

New exercise bike

こんばんは!Greetings humans! 👽

As you can see from today’s photo, I’m “enjoying” the new exercise bike. It’s actually pretty good, although my legs are so weak. I get tired after only 10 minutes! I guess the energy drink I had wasn’t conducive to burning calories but I thought it was delicious. 🍺

I mentioned in my previous post that I wanted to try to wake up early and exercise before getting ready for work. Yeah, that didn’t happen. I am taking advantage of the fact that I don’t need to wake up the kids (Spring Break) and make breakfast for them. So I can sleep in! I will enjoy this week as well. 😜

But seriously, we read that if you can exercise more in your 40s, you’ll have a much healthier brain in your 60s. I don’t know if it is true or not, but it is good motivation to get active, which has other benefits. Plus, it’s fun to exercise. And then I can also enjoy yummy foods more, right?

Well, I am going to try to sleep early to counteract the daylight savings adjustment. Talk to you again!

Spring forward if you can

こんばんは!The weather today was amazing… sunny and almost 90 degrees. This is perhaps the one or two week period where we have great weather before it gets really hot. But it’s kind of too early… only March!

Also, it’s the time of year where we adjust our clocks forward an hour. We have “Daylight Savings” here, so now it is darker when we wake up but stays lighter later into the evening. This time, I am having a really hard time adjusting to it. I usually wake up somewhere in the 5am hour, and naturally it is now in the 6am hour. But for some reason I cannot shift back to 5am. It hasn’t been a problem yet since I have been working from home the past two days and the kids are on spring break so they don’t need to wake up early. But tomorrow I will need to go in to work so I should try to get back to my normal schedule. We’ll see if I can do it!

Today’s photo is of our coffee pot… it’s wearing a scarf! Actually, it’s a kitchen towel that I wrap around to try to keep the heat in. It’s all about hot coffee!

Well, it’s late already (11:20pm is late for me), so I should try to get to bed so I can wake up early. Take care! おやすみなさい!
