Mariko and I went to our friends’ house for a saké-tasting and potluck party. It was fun and the food was delicious!
Most of the conversation was in Japanese, and I am finding that I can understand more and more lately (yay for Duolingo!). I’d say I understand maybe 40%. I’m getting there slowly!

Spicy tuna, with a bit of sriracha, sesame oil, kewpie mayo, and green onion over rice with wasabi and a bit of shoyu make for a delicious dinner. The avocado and miso soup round out a great meal. ♥️
Tonight Mariko made a simmered beef dish which what she describes as a “simpler version of sukiyaki”. It is awesome. Check @popotxkitchen sometime for the recipe!
Tonight’s curry was made with thinly sliced pork and Java curry. It was delicious. It’s always a good day when you have curry to look forward to. ♥️🍛
We enjoyed dinner at our friend’s restaurant the other night. We mostly stuck to nigiri sushi because it is awesome, but I couldn’t resist ordering the shishamo. It was yummy!
BTW, Shishamo is also the name of the greatest 3-member all-girl band in the world. 😆 Check them out!
