As the kids have grown bigger, so has the mountain of karaage (から揚げ) that Mariko prepares. 😆

Chicken and Health Check
こんばんは。How’s it going?
Tonight we had everyone’s favorite meal: karaage (Japanese fried chicken). White rice, karaage, and miso soup are perfect for a cold day like today… it warms you up and lifts your spirits! 😊 The rain and chilly weather are such a shock since last week was so warm and nice. But I guess each day of bad weather means we’re a day closer to summer 2019. 😀
In other news, I went for my annual health screening at work. It’s a basic checkup, with a blood test to check on cholesterol, glucose, etc. And my health is actually improving for the most part! The bad cholesterol has gone down, the good cholesterol has gone up, and blood pressure is in a good range. In fact, everything was trending towards better health, with the exception of one measurement – I gained 1 pound. I blame the karaage. 😜
I hope you had a nice day!

Karaage and a Quick Physical
こんばんは。How’s it going?
Koa has started his marching band high school career but we forgot to get his required physical exam from the doctor… but luckily Mariko found out that the CareNow urgent care near us offers physicals, and they are only $20! So Koa and I headed over there after band practice today and sure enough, there was a sign in the window stating, “School Physicals – $20”! Plus, we were the only ones there when we arrived so we were in and out of there in just half an hour. Super convenient, and much cheaper than a visit to the regular doctor.
Tonight’s photo is of the dinner that Mariko prepared. Once again it is the family favorite, karaage (Japanese fried chicken). Of course there were no leftovers! 😄
I hope you had a nice Tuesday!

Chicken, Pens, and Studying
こんばんは。How’s it going?
As you can see, we feasted once again on karaage (Japanese-style fried chicken). It’s a family favorite, although we have our own preferences on how to eat. For instance, Mariko like hers with a little salt and lemon, Koa likes to squeeze lemon into a small dish and dip the karaage, while Bay and I like it with lemon and Kewpie mayo. But whichever extra seasoning we use, it’s a must that we enjoy it with a nice bowl of steamed rice. Karaage and rice is the best!
Later on I was in the office being productive by setting up my Japanese studying flashcards on the computer using the Anki system. It’s fun! And I am also continuing to practice writing using my fountain pens. Writing with those pens and with my favorite inks makes the practice a pleasure. Anything I can do to make studying easier is welcome. 😀
Speaking of the pens I bought this new pen case the other day. It’s basic, but good quality and the price was right! I used to just keep my pens on my desk, but now with the cat-proof case, I know there won’t be any inky surprises. 😾
I hope you had a nice Sunday!
