A few days ago, we saw the sunrise from Haleakalā and today we drove back up to see the sunset. When we reached the summit, the area was covered in clouds and the 47°F / 8.3°C wind was howling like mad. It was so cold and wet. I didn’t think we’d see the sun come out.

But about 10 minutes before sunset, the clouds broke and we had a gorgeous view. It was spectacular!

By the way, the entrance fee to Haleakalā National Park is good for three days, so no problem coming back for a second visit. Also, you don’t need a reservation for sunset, but the parking lot at the summit might get crowded. And lastly make sure to bring warm clothes!

“Burger Time” Lahaina, 2023

For lunch today, we went to It’s Cherry in Lahaina. They serve yummy veggie burgers at the old Sugar Cane Train location. The burgers were pretty good! If you are visiting Lahaina, it’s a solid choice to grab a bite.

After that, we went to Koholā Brewery next door for a drink before heading back home. Lahaina is about a 30-minute drive from Wailuku, so it’s not too long a trip, especially because the views of the water, beaches, and Kahoʻolawe are so nice.

This morning we drove up to Haleakalā Crater to catch the sunrise. It was very cold and windy, but luckily we were treated to a wonderful view with some beautiful cloud formations, and the Big Island in the distance. Simply awesome! If you decide to do the same, make sure to make a reservation (required).

After that, we went home and then it was time to work. Here’s the view of the backyard from my “workstation” this morning (the dining table). :)

I hope you had a nice day!

“Sunrise” Wailuku, 2023

Working from Maui means I have to start the day early so I can keep my regular hours. How early? Well, it’s a 4-hour time difference, so I’ll begin when it’s still dark out. But that’s okay because I can enjoy the nice Maui sunrises! I think it’s worth it.

The morning goes by pretty quickly actually, and I can end my work day by about 1 pm and have the afternoon to hang out with my family.

Anyway, for this trip, I decided to bring the Olympus E-PL9 and shoot primarily in Toy Camera mode. It’s really fun and it feels like I am just snapping shots with a point and shoot film camera. There’s minimal post-processing which means I save a lot of time (not that I edit for very long with my Fujifilm camera).

I’m excited to shoot snapshots this week!
