こんばんは!How’s it going?

Today’s photo is of this morning’s clouds, and the sun coming up. Not too long after, the overcast skies were gone and we had a beautiful day.

Tomorrow is the annual “Undoukai” or Sports Day at the Japanese school 🇯🇵, so today Mariko spent a lot of time in the kitchen preparing our food. Lunch is kind of a fun part of the day, after half of the sporting events are over and all the families relax for a bit and get to eat yummy bento. I always look forward to our bento because it’s so delicious!

Anyways, she was very busy so I helped out by going to the grocery store and then grilling burgers for dinner. 🍔 Of course she had to contribute to dinner too, and for the burger dinner, she baked fresh sesame-seed buns. I have to say, the burgers turned out great. 😄

More about Undoukai tomorrow, so for now, have a good evening!

Hi all!

Tonight I went to see the Texas Stars hockey team play at the nearby arena (only 8 minutes from my house!). I went with a bunch of my work-mates and had a good time, both at the game and before in the parking lot where we had little tailgate party. Good beer, good brats, and good sausage!

I hadn’t been to see the Stars play for a couple of years, and I was wondering if we’d see the remote-controlled Mighty Fine Burger again. So I was happy to see when it flew again last night! It’ a fascinating contraption – it appears to be a very large mylar balloon, with a small mechanical unit on the bottom which has a couple of adjustable propellers.

It floats around over the crowd, dropping coupons down on the spectators. In the photo above, you can see the kids go nuts for it. Lots of fun, and Mighty Fine Burgers is a good burger place, local and delicious.

The hockey actions was good, with the Texas Stars beating the Charlotte Checkers by a score of 6-2. It’s fun to watch minor league sports, which is pretty much what we have in Austin. The Texas Stars are the minor league affiliate of the Dallas Stars, and we also have the Round Rock Express which is affiliated with the Texas Rangers.

Of course, the UT Longhorns are the biggest team in town, but I’ve never been into college sports. After 18 years living in a college town with one of the most famous college teams in the country, surrounded by UT fans, and still not developing even the slightest interest in college sports, I don’t think I am going to change.

However, I really like minor-league sports, especially because you sometimes get to see the future major-league stars, and occasionally a major-leaguer will join the minor-league team for a rehab assignment.

こんばんは!

Today was Koa’s final Cross-country Meet of the season and he said he did great in the race. He finished 95th, which doesn’t seem so great, but today’s event was the District Meet so there were 8 schools competing. He was a little sad because he really enjoyed Cross-country, except for the first week since it was difficult to get in running shape.
I hope he wants to run again next year! It’s a good way to exercise, and it’s nice that he is building up some good experiences while running.

I took today’s photo on the way to pick him up from school after the meet. This road is one that I run along a lot, although I haven’t put on my running shoes in months! I should probably hit the pavement again soon.

This evening I started watching Season 1 (2012) of the Japanese dorama, “Doctor-X”. Right now Season 4 is showing and I’ve seen ads for it over the years but never watched any of them. But I did some research and found out that the series has huge ratings! Like over 20% viewership… that is crazy!

I’ve watched the first three episodes, and am getting into it. It’s pretty good, but I don’t think it is spectacular or anything. Still, better than a lot of other dorama so I’ll continue watching… And since there are 3 completed seasons already, there’s plenty to watch.

Have a good evening!

Tuxedo Cat and Godzilla

こんばんは!How’s it going?

So, one of our kitties is black and white – a “tuxedo cat”. I had never heard that term before, but I like it. And I heard that tuxedo cats are strange… not sure if that is a trait or not, but ours is certainly the odd one of the pair of kittens we got. They are sisters, so I thought their personalities would be more similar, but the tuxedo cat is really quirky. She’s a lot of fun!

Earlier this evening my friend Mikey and I went to see the movie “Shin Godzilla”. It’s in limited release here in the States so the theater was sold out. We both enjoyed the movie quite a bit! The special effects were great, and Godzilla was pretty amazing (and very destructive). This version reminded me of a Titan from “Attack on Titan”… anyone else think so?

What I thought was fun about the movie was that it was filled with so many recognizable Japanese actors. Seems like everyone had a cameo or starring role. I also thought Ishihara Satomi’s character was funny speaking English. It was just like her English in the dorama 5-9. It was silly and fun!

Lastly, the English acting from the gaijin was terrible… yappari (as expected). But all-in-all, I thought it was a good movie. And I am amazed at how many conference rooms could be shown in a single movie. They must have set a record. 😜

I hope you had a nice Tuesday!
