Today’s travel day started off with a big breakfast with Koa. We snagged a table at Gallery Pastry Bar and enjoyed chicken and French toast, a burger and fries, and “Bougie” eggs benedict. Delicious! What a nice way to end another fun trip to Indianapolis. Hopefully we’ll be back next year!
And as luck would have it, the person waiting our table was a Blue Devils alum!
Tonight, Koa’s band won the DCI Championship! The photo above is when he was setting up for the victory encore performance. All the bands were mingling on the field after the awards ceremony, celebrating the end of a long DCI season. Please check out the video at the bottom of this post if you’d like to see what the victory performance was like. BTW, Koa’s marimba-cam was featured a lot in the video. 😀
We’re in full vacation mode here! Today’s first meal was complete decadence at Sugar Factory. Mariko got a waffle shake, and we shared a Flaming Hot Cheetos burger. It was pretty tasty, although not spicy at all. Go figure… anyways, I also got a mimosa which hit the spot. What a way to start the day. 😂
Next, we stopped at Georgia Street Grind for some coffee (I had a half a cup since I don’t drink coffee much anymore) and a bit of work. Gencon happened in Indy recently and the coffee shop still had their themed sign up. I had to take a photo because it was cool.
In the evening, we watched Koa’s band compete in the semi-finals at Lucas Oil Stadium. They won! Woohoo! Just one more performance tomorrow in the finals. Let’s hope they can do it again.
Today we slept in a bit at the hotel, and then went to The Garage to meet up with some friends and fellow band parents for lunch. The Garage is a really cool food hall located in an old Coca Cola distribution center. There are lots of different cuisines to choose from… so hard to decide!
After that we took a stroll down Mass Ave and stopped at Needler’s Market to pick up some local beer to take home. It’s kind of one of the things we always do (if we have checked luggage). The luggage gets heavy, but it’s worth it since we like beer so much. 😂

In the afternoon, we watched Koa’s drum corp rehearse. They sound amazing! Actually, all the top bands sound awesome. But of course I am biased towards my son’s band. 😄
Mariko and I are flying up to Indianapolis to watch Koa’s drum corp compete in the DCI World Championships. It’s the second time we’re going to watch the Blue Devils, and our fingers are crossed that they wrap up their season undefeated again. Let’s go!!

I use a Fujifilm X-series camera for most of the photos on this site and my Instagram. Why not pick one up for yourself?
