This year it was just Mariko and I for our traditional fondue. Bay is in New York, and Koa was busy so… more fondue for us! 😁

Valentines Fondue
One of our family traditions is a cheese fondue dinner for Valentines Day. I guess it’s somewhat popular here in the US, or at least it used to be. Anyway, this year it was just Mariko and I since both kids are away at school, so for the first time, we had mushrooms with our fondue. So yummy!
Earlier in the day, I went to pick up a bouquet of flowers, and the curbside delivery lady also gave me a single red rose (and a sparkling water). It’s maybe the first time I’ve ever received a rose from a girl! I mentioned this to my friend, and he said that he read that 95% of men only receive flowers at their funeral. I don’t know if that’s true, but it seem plausible. So it’s nice that I’ve joined the 5%. :)
This Year’s Valentines Gifts
こんばんは。How’s it going?
Today’s photos are of the gifts that Mariko bought for the boys today for Valentine’s Day. Bay received the sloth, and Koa received the Snoopy. I’m not sure the origin, but Bay’s favorite animal, or at least the one associated with him, is the sloth. But it suits him because he tends to sleep a lot. And Koa has had a few Snoopys over the years, including t-shirts and other stuffed animals. I think they both liked their gifts since after dinner, they took them up to their rooms. 😄
This year, I bought Mariko a box of Godiva chocolates, which is pretty much what I do every year. Godiva is the one brand readily available here in the States that I know she likes. Although she said we have too much chocolate in the house (we do have a lot!), her and Bay spent some time choosing which candy from the box to eat tonight.
As for myself, well… no gifts, but that’s okay. I think I have everything I need. ☺
I hope you had a nice day!

Valentines Day
こんばんは。How’s it going?
Tonight we celebrated Valentines Day as we normally do: by enjoying a yummy fondue dinner! I don’t know when we started this tradition exactly, but it’s been at least several years.
For the main course, we have two cheese fondues, one for the kids with no alcohol, and then the adult’s version which includes white wine. We use Emmentaler, Gruyere, and Cheddar, but I don’t remember which goes into which, but both are delicious! This year we had bratwurst, baguette cubes, apples, cauliflower, carrots, and potatoes for dipping. It doesn’t look like a lot of food when you put it on the table, but it is really filling!
For the dessert portion, we had a chocolate fondue with marshmallows, strawberries, bananas, and brownies.
I only had a little of the dessert (I was so full) but the chocolate/banana combo was super. 😍
I hope you had a nice Wednesday!

Late Valentine’s Dinner
みんなさんこんばんは。How’s it going?
Tonight we celebrated Valentine’s Day (a day late because Mariko had to work last night) with our annual fondue dinner.
Mariko always prepares a yummy cheese fondue, with bread, sausage, cauliflower, and potato. This year, we also had asparagus, carrots, apple, and ravioli! In the photo, you can see there are two cheeses, one for the kids and one, with wine added, for the adults. 😄🍷
And after the cheese fondue is finished, we’ll have a chocolate fondue, with strawberries, banana, apple, and marshmallows. 😍 おいしかった!
I look forward to our Valentine’s fondue dinner every February, and this year’s version didn’t disappoint!
I hope you had a nice Wednesday.
